Abstract: |
These data are part of Explorations in Personality, a two and a half year study that was conducted in the 1930s by Murray and a research team at the Harvard Psychological Clinic. The general purpose of the study was to construct a theory of personality that integrated existing theories and to devise techniques to identify important personality attributes. The ultimate goal was to determine the relationship between early experiences and personality. <br /><br /> The first group consists of 20 students in the Harvard classes of 1932, 1933, and 1934. The second group is composed of 13 participants. It cannot be inferred from the information available whether or not the second group of participants were also Harvard College students. Data consist of a series of closed-ended measures (such as forced choice scales), intelligence and aptitude tests, projective tests, and an interview about childhood memories.<br /><br /> The Murray Research Archive holds the original record paper data from two groups of men, and also has print-outs of statistical analyses of the different measures and rank orders for each participant on the various personality variables. |
