Abstract:

<p>This is a descriptive analysis done on data collected from a prospective cohort study purposed to explore the potential role of breastfeeding in the recovery of acute malnutrition among children under 6 months. 51 infant's aged between 4 weeks to 4 months were hospitalized at Kilifi County Hospital(KCH) were recruited to the study from September 2016 to January 2018. </p> <p>The purpose of the analysis was to: <br> <ol type="a"> <li>To determine the proportion of acutely malnourished infants <6m with the possibility to breastfeed exclusively or non-exclusively at admission.</li> <li>To determine the proportion of infants exclusively breastfeeding at discharge and at 4 weeks after discharge after following inpatient re-lactation counselling according to the 2013 WHO. </li> <li>To determine the weight gain of infants recovering from acute malnutrition in relation to breastfeeding practice.</li> </ol>
