Abstract:

The State Legislated Actions on Tobacco Issues tracks state tobacco control laws, such as restrictions on smoking in work and public places as well as laws on tobacco taxes. <p><b>Background</b></p> The State Legislated Actions on Tobacco Issues is run by the American Lung Association. It is the only comprehensive and up-to-date summary of tobacco control laws in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Users are able to: view a specific state’s tobacco control laws by clicking on the state map, compare states using the 2010 State of Tobacco Control report, and search the legislature related to smoke-free laws, policies, taxes. There is a variety of legislature related to tobacco control available including but not limited to information on smoking restrictions, tobacco taxes, tobacco control funding , youth access to tobacco products, minimum sales amounts for tobacco products, and tobacco products in vending machines. <p><b>User functionality </b></p> Users are able to choose which state they want information on by using the map tool. Users will be provided with an in-depth summary of laws related to tobacco products in the state. Each piece of legislature is summarized and the year and code is available. Users are also able to view a variety of data reports and fact sheets related to specific tobacco topics. <p><b>Data Notes </b></p> All data is presented in pdf and html formats. The website does not ind icate how often the data is updated.
