Abstract: |
This dataset consists of 23 structured lesson plans focused on pivotal artistic movements and the evolution of abstraction in art history. The first 10 lesson plans explore movements that disrupted traditional artistic norms, aligning with E.H. Gombrich's perspective on art as a reflection of changing ideas and societal needs rather than continuous progress. The remaining 13 lesson plans trace the trajectory of abstraction, highlighting its role as modernism’s most transformative innovation, starting in late 1911. Each lesson plan is designed to support approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes of classroom teaching, with a central focus, initial discussion questions, practical activities, and recommended audiovisual resources. The materials encourage active learning and critical engagement with the subject matter, offering students a clear and concise understanding of core ideas without overwhelming detail. The lesson plans also incorporate the Cornell note-taking method, guiding students to structure their notes effectively to facilitate review and self-assessment. This dataset serves as an Open Educational Resource (OER) for educators and students in the fields of art history and design, aiming to enhance understanding and foster critical thinking about key moments in art and design. |
