Abstract:

The surface station data from Météo-France, available on data.gouv.fr, includes various fields that describe atmospheric measurements and station characteristics. 158 Meteo quantities are purposed but they are not all measured by each Met Station. Here are some typical fields found in these datasets: +++Station Identifier: A unique code, often based on the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) system, used to identify each station. +++Station Name: The geographic name associated with the station. +++Geographic Coordinates: Latitude, longitude, and sometimes altitude of the station. +++Observation Date and Time: Data is typically recorded every 3 hours. In the present dataset, oldest data (1890...) are given each day whereas in the recent ones, the usual period is the hour. +++Temperature: The air temperature measured in degrees Celsius. +++Humidity: Relative humidity measured as a percentage. +++ Atmospheric Pressure: Measured in hPa (hectopascals). +++Wind Direction and Speed: Expressed in degrees for direction and in m/s or km/h for speed. +++ Precipitation: Cumulative precipitation over a given period. +++ Sunshine and other specific parameters depending on the station. These datasets are usually provided in multiple formats such as CSV, JSON, and GeoJSON, and are available under an Open License, which allows for free use with attribution(Accueil - data.gouv.fr) In the present set, the data are given as the .dump of a PostGresql Database Table containing all the reported data.
