Description	Conditional Cash Transfers (CCTs) have been shown to increase human capital investments, but their standard features make them expensive. We use a large randomized experiment in Morocco to estimate an alternative government-run program, a "labeled cash transfer" (LCT): a small cash transfer made to fathers of school-aged children in poor rural communities, not conditional on school attendance but explicitly labeled as an education support program. We document large gains in school participation. Adding conditionality and targeting mothers made almost no difference in our context. The program increased parents' belief that education was a worthwhile investment, a likely pathway for the results. (2015-02-03)

Universe	The poorest rural municipalities of the poorest 5 administrative regions of Morocco (Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, Meknès-Tafilalet, l'Oriental, Souss-Massa-Draa and Tadla-AzilalMarrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, Meknès-Tafilalet, l'Oriental, Souss-Massa-Draa and Tadla-Azilal) The sample consisted of school sectors in poor municipalities with the highest primary school dropout rates of the 5 poorest administrative regions of morocco (this ended up being 320 sectors, or ~ 65% of the school sectors in the selected regions). All students eligible to attend the primary schools in these sectors (defined by "catchment areas") were in the sample. Two of the 320 sectors were dropped from the sample due to inaccessibility from extreme flooding

Sampling Procedure	Stage 1: Region selection -- the 5 poorest regions in Morocco were selected Stage 2: school sector selection: school sectors in the poorest rural communes with the highest primary school dropout rates were chosen School sample: All students enrolled in the schools chosen in stage 2 formed the school sample Household sample: two separate sampling frames were used: the list of all HH in the sectors above with a school-aged child and at least one child in primary school, and the list of all HH with a primary-school-aged child but that did not have any kids in school. 6 HH were chosen at random per sector from the first list, and 2 were chosen at random per sector from the second list Stage 3: Awareness survey sample: schools were selected at random Teacher awareness survey: head teachers were surveyed, and one fourth grade Arabic teacher was chosen Parent awareness survey: HHs of stage 3 schools were selected at random
