Users can generate and download tables on risk factors (such as nutrition and tobacco use) and conditions (such as diabetes and cancer) related to chronic diseases.
Background Chronic Disease Indicators (CDI) is a surveillance system of chronic disease data and is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Consistent definitions and methodologies for collecting information on the indicators allow for state to state comparisons. There are 98 chronic disease indicators that are divided into the following 7 broad categories of conditions and risk factors: physical activity and nutrition; tobacco and alcohol use; cancer; cardiov ascular disease; diabetes; arthritis; overarching conditions; other diseases and risk factors.
User Functionality Users select the United States or particular state of interest (including Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands) and the category of indicators. Data is then presented in a table that compares state rates with national rates. Users can download or print the table. From the table, users may also view the definition and data source of any particular indicator. Prevalence data, or the crude and age adjusted rates are available, and data is often available to be v iewed by age group or sex (gender).
Data Notes Data sources are clearly specified for each indicator. The most recent data are from 2009, and the site is updated as new data becomes available. Data are available at the state or national level. (2011-01)
