Description	The survey data on costs-benefit analysis of livestock management practices in the lowlands of Ethiopia is systematically organized in Microsoft Excel tables. Each of the three land management practices, that is, rangeland improved, restoration of degraded land, and fodder cropping and poultry expansion have data contained in excel tables. The data entails general household characteristics, the region where the practices are common and activities households indulged in before and after introduction of land management practices. The data also contains costs of inputs and labour required for the land management practices; mainly for implementation, maintenance and operation. Additionally, the tables include data on products generated from the land management practices as well as their market prices.

The survey was carried out in the Oromia region (Borana zone) which covers slightly less than 100,000km2 of land, with a population density of about 10 persons per km2. The population composited of pastoralists and agro-pastoralists. However, the main source of livelihood is semi-nomadic pastoralism of cattle, goats, sheep and camels. The ethnic group practices improved livestock management by allowing pasture to regenerate through livestock exclusion, growing improved fodder species and actively restoring degraded lands. Cropping is also widely practiced in the region covering about 16,000km2 of land, with most farmers owning about 2ha of land or less. Some of the crop species grown include teff, maize, wheat, sorghum, barley and beans. The snowballing technique was used to generate a sample of 86 farmers who were distributed among the three practices.
