The Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT

Today’s global challenges of poverty, malnutrition, climate change, land degradation, and biodiversity loss call for new research, solutions, innovations, and stronger partnerships that can deliver higher impact. To respond to these challenges, and building on their complementary mandates and long collaboration, Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) have joined forces to create an Alliance.

The Alliance delivers research-based solutions that harness agricultural biodiversity and sustainably transform food systems to improve people’s lives.

To do so, the Alliance works with local, national and multinational partners across Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and Africa, and with the public and private sectors. With partners, the Alliance generates evidence and mainstreams innovations in large-scale programmes to create food systems and landscapes that sustain the planet, drive prosperity and nourish people.

Research Lever 6: Crops for nutrition and health : Putting nutrition and health at the heart of crop improvement to address the triple burden of malnutrition.

Emergent agricultural pathogens cause severe damage worldwide. Standard surveillance and diagnostic protocols need to be evaluated and implemented at regional level, particularly with diseases caused by a wide range of pathogens that can induce similar symptoms. This dataset provides a description of surveillance and diagnostics data for CMD in Tha...

Zaake, Paul; Paul, Birthe K.; Marshall, Karen; Notenbaert, An; Ouma, A. Emily; Dionec, Michel M.; Ouma, George O.; Ndambi, Asaah O., 2020, "Pig production in Uganda - adapting to climate change", https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/KPVH8Q, Harvard Dataverse, V2, UNF:6:0jnJamiuqvncB3m30nlRcw== [fileUNF]
There is limited attention to impacts of climate change on pigs in Uganda by stakeholders, despite the potential vulnerability of pigs to climate change. Pigs are sensitive to heat-stress, as they do not have functioning sweat glands as other livestock species do, and have small lungs which reduces their ability to disseminate heat by panting. The...
