HPTN 071 - Population Effects of Antiretroviral Therapy to Reduce HIV Transmission (PopART) was a cluster-randomized trial which examined the impact of a combination prevention package including universal testing and treatment on community-level HIV incidence. The intervention included universal voluntary HIV counseling and testing provided at the household level, linkage of HIV-positive individuals to care and early initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) for all those testing HIV-positive. The study was conducted in 21 communities in Zambia and the Western Cape of South Africa. Three types of de-identified study data are available: 1. Data from a cohort of 48,301 adult residents of randomly selected households in the 21 communities, who were surveyed annually between 2013 – 2018. 2. Data from surveys of health care workers in the study communities regarding stigma towards people living with HIV. 3. Key indicators of HIV testing and treatment coverage during Annual Rounds of intervention based on data collected by the Community HIV Care Provider (ChiPs) teams who delivered the primary PopART intervention in the intervention communities from 2014 – 2017.
