Contrary to the established belief that low agricultural prices fuel peasant rebellion, our study investigates the surge in peasant unrest during a period of high agricultural prices. The transition to capital-intensive agriculture, characterized by reduced labor demand and heightened entry barriers, prompts landowners to expand into the agricultur...

Gavin, Michael, 2025, "Replication Data for: Interest groups and central bank credit policies: Evidence from 1600-1914", https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/OWKXPZ, Harvard Dataverse, V2, UNF:6:+TN27tSe+Kx89AtAqJuAUA== [fileUNF]
Before the nineteenth century, nearly all central banks financed government spending, but as the centuries passed direct government financing became taboo. Using original data from 69 central banks established between 1600-1914, this study traces a shift away from government financing and towards increased support for private sector credit via disc...

Carew Boulding; Raymond Foxworth; Verner, Marija, 2025, "Replication Data for: Strength in Small Numbers: Indigenous Political Participation in Latin America", https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/LVSYCG, Harvard Dataverse, V1, UNF:6:UiLLFa4XJsbFaA1aAfTTaA== [fileUNF]
How do Indigenous peoples across Latin America participate in politics and what explains it? More than 500 Indigenous groups have experienced repression and attempts at erasure. Still, Indigenous communities persist and are politically active. We argue that structural and institutional factors within democracy are important, but also not the whole...

Harbers, Imke; Hunter, Wendy, 2025, "Replication Data for: Going the Last Mile: How Social Pensions Make Marginalized Elders Legible and Build the State’s Informational Capacity", https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/YBBMXJ, Harvard Dataverse, V1, UNF:6:hFQ3s7s3n36Y6XbsUJc3GA== [fileUNF]
The state’s reach across societal groups is often uneven. Lacking docu- ments that provide official proof of age and identity, many elderly people in countries of the Global South have long resided in the blind spot of states, especially if they are poor, indigenous, live in rural areas, and have labored outside the formal sector. How can states go...

Chlouba, Vladimir, 2024, "Replication Data for: The Precolonial Origins of African Nationalism", https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/GGF1PI, Harvard Dataverse, V1, UNF:6:A1tXcGi2rIZT3W7EJKE2KQ== [fileUNF]
What explains the degree of national attachment expressed by contemporary Africans? Using historical data on early African statehood and survey responses from across the continent, I show that national identification among contemporary Africans was jointly shaped by the socialization efforts of precolonial rulers and the form of colonial rule emplo...

Shelef, Nadav; Jamison, Anne, 2024, "Replication Data for: Domestic legitimacy, coethnics abroad, and the shape of the homeland", https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/FWK7IN, Harvard Dataverse, V2, UNF:6:RDkfxHSK5qnSLz5PiHKuJw== [fileUNF]
Why does the presence of coethnics across the border sometimes lead to categorizing that land as part of the homeland, but sometimes not? We argue this variation is shaped by whether regimes use ethnic logics to elicit domestic legitimacy. Relying on shared ethnicity for legitimacy elevates ethnicity's political salience, making ethnic groups livin...

Costalli, Stefano, 2024, "Replication Data for: The violent legacy of fascism: Evidence from Italy", https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/O7BZJG, Harvard Dataverse, V1, UNF:6:1dQ8iqE6mSSe6IexKoKPBA== [fileUNF]
Can legacies of fascism threat democracies with political violence? Democracies aim to peacefully manage incompatible interests in a society. Yet, few democracies avoid violence altogether. Legacies of fascism may re-emerge because local networks can transfer their ideational tenets - supremacist identities and anti-democratism (know what), violent...

Valentim, Vicente, 2024, "Replication Data for: Norms of Democracy, Staged Democrats, and Supply of Exclusionary Ideology", https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/JFLKEU, Harvard Dataverse, V1
Existing literature sees attitudinal support for liberal democratic values as a crucial way to prevent the success of illiberal actors and their policies. But recent studies show that democratic support can coexist with lack of punishment for backsliding practices. To reconcile these findings, I argue that social norms generate incentives to declar...
