The whole-Galaxy CO survey presented in Dame et al. (2001) is a composite of 37 separate surveys that are described and numbered in Table 1 of the paper. The data from most of these surveys can be accessed by clicking on the survey number in the map below, which is Figure 1 from the paper. The sampling of this survey was unique among those in the archive -- two interleaved 0.125 ° grids. For the cubes presented here, the data were spatially smoothed and placed on a single 0.125° grid. The sampling is tightly constrained to the emission region. The infrared analysis in DHT2001 suggests that there is more emission outside the sampling boundary.

This is one of about a dozen relatively small surveys carried out to search for molecular clouds predicted by the infrared analysis of DHT2001 (shaded purple in Fig. 1; see Section 3.1.4). In nearly all cases molecular gas was detected.

This is a composite of four of the so-called "superbeam" surveys published in the original "Composite CO Survey of the Entire Milky Way" (Dame et al. 1987). Owing to the frequency switching mode used for this survey, its velocity range is relatively small, -22 to 30 km/s. This range is adequate to cover essentially all the CO emission at b < -5, but not so at higher latitudes closer to the Galactic plane. In the range b = -5 to -2 it is better to use one of the second quadrant surveys (DHT17 or DHT18),...

This is the single survey with the largest angular extent, covering more than the entire second quadrant over a wide latitude range. The sampling is 1/4 °. Spectra spaced every 1/4° were extracted from the Cygnus, CasA, and MonOB1 surveys and included in the cubes presented here. All the spectra were interpolated to a channel spacing of exactly 1.3...

The survey was conducted with the 100 kHz filterbank on the southern telescope, providing a velocity resolution of 0.26 km/s over 67 km/s. The velocity range in the cube is narrow, -10 to 8 km/s, but apparently adequate to cover all the emission from the Coalsack cloud.
