The Viral Epidemiology and Control (VEC) Data Repository contains data collections produced by the VEC Group of researchers for public access and use. The group is affiliated to the Kemri Wellcome Trust Research Programme and Wellcome Trust. Each dataset has a citation and DOI, facilitating attribution and connection to research publications. Currently, the VEC Data Repository operates on the Dataverse repository software platform. More information about the benefits of preserving, archiving and sharing data can be found here. For information about the VEC Data Archive, please email us at virec.group@gmail.com or visit our website http://virec-group.org/ to know more about our research.

Nyiro, J.U.; Munywoki, P.K.; Nokes, D.J., 2018, "Replication Data for: Defining the vaccination window for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) using age-seroprevalence data for children in Kilifi, Kenya", https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/Z8DRSK, Harvard Dataverse, V1, UNF:6:YPD4A23sNBfhF5XA8zCMCQ== [fileUNF]
Acute respiratory infection (ARI) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children <5 years old worldwide [1], and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the most important viral pathogen responsible for annual bronchiolitis and pneumonia epidemics in these young children [2–5]. Global estimates indicate that RSV may cause about 0.3 million...

Otieno, James Richard; Nokes, David James, 2017, "Replication Data for: Molecular Evolutionary Dynamics of Respiratory Syncytial Virus Group A in Recurrent Epidemics in Coastal Kenya", https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/MNSYNF, Harvard Dataverse, V1
The data is from an on-going study aimed at understanding the epidemiology and disease burden of RSV-associated pneumonia cases in Kilifi. This report details the evolutionary dynamics of RSV-A genotype in Kilifi. Respiratory swab samples (combined nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal) were collected from January 2000 to December 2012 from: (i) LRTI ca...

Kamau, Everlyn; Nokes, David James, 2017, "Replication Data for: Recent sequence variation in probe binding site affected detection of respiratory syncytial virus group B by real-time RT-PCR", https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/B2PT24, Harvard Dataverse, V1
This dataset comprises of Nucleotide sequences used to match primers and probes, and for phylogenetic inferences. A total of 168 N and G gene sequences deposited in Genbank with accession numbers from KX775772 - KX775940. This data is freely available. In our analysis, we observed inconsistencies between two routine RSV diagnostic methods applied i...

Otieno, James Richard; Nokes, David James, 2017, "Replication Data for: Spread and Evolution of Respiratory Syncytial Virus A Genotype ON1, Coastal Kenya, 2010-2015", https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/ZLNI4V, Harvard Dataverse, V2, UNF:6:bRvaY2VwmK/lQuSSXtRi4A== [fileUNF]
The data is from an on-going study aimed at understanding the epidemiology and disease burden of RSV-associated pneumonia cases in Kilifi. This study was specifically interested in the introduction, spread and evolution of the novel RSV-A genotype ON1 in Kilifi. Respiratory swab samples (combined nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal) were collected fro...

Nokes, David james; Scott, John Anthony G.; Nyiro, Joyce Uchi, 2016, "Replication Data for: Absence of Association between Cord Specific Antibody Levels and Severe Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Disease in Early Infants: A Case Control Study from Coastal Kenya", https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/FOIUHT, Harvard Dataverse, V2, UNF:6:2aPIb7AM6ZBUQgMtdADXzw== [fileUNF]
This dataset was generated from a study nested within a previous Kilifi Birth Cohort (KBC) study, conducted between 1999 and 2007 at KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme, KEMRI CGMR-C, Kilifi, Kenya. The KBC resulted in an archive of cord and three-monthly follow-up sera from infants. The nested study involved selection from this dataset cases d...

Munywoki, Patrick K.; Nokes, David J., 2016, "Replication Data for: Quantification and determinants of the amount of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) shed using real time PCR data from a longitudinal household study.", https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/MOTEJH, Harvard Dataverse, V5, UNF:6:SbaZDgXIVZjoBPumTaRjcw== [fileUNF]
The RSV infection data arise from an intensively followed cohort of 47 households with 493 occupants in rural coastal Kenya. The details of the study have been described elsewhere (13,17,18). In summary, throughout an RSV season spanning 26 weeks (December 2009-June 2010), nasopharyngeal swabs (NPS) were collected by trained field assistants every...
