Regular roads were virtually non-existent in the “wild fields” of the Pontic Steppe, and overland travel tended to follow general paths that conducted travelers between destinations as expeditiously as possible by avoiding rugged terrain such as mountains, ravines, and difficult river crossings. This dataverse contains three datasets that trace travel routes shown on Beauplan’s maps: Dataset 1 - Traces the routes of the Czarny Szlak, the Kuczmanski Szlak, and the Moraski Szlak; Database 2 – Traces minor travel routes shown on Beauplan’s maps; Dataset 3 – Provides travel hubs connecting travel route segments.
